Jonathan Chiche - Papinius, le légionnaire inoubliable de Kaamelott

Among the recent faces of Kaamelott, Jonathan Chiche won a place in the fans’ hearts thanks to his tasty performance as Caius Papinius, a loyal and (slightly) overwhelmed Roman soldier, whom we meet in the last season of the series. Papinius is the supporting role that became cult, whose naivety and uprightness contrast deliciously with the schemes of the Arthurian world.

At Trolls & Légendes, Jonathan Chiche marked the 2024 edition with his warm presence. Always approachable, he did not hesitate to talk at length with visitors, sign autographs and share the small secrets of the Kaamelott set. During the talks he explained, with humour, how hard it is to keep a straight face in front of his colleagues’ improvisations, and the fits of laughter that punctuated the filming days, especially during the Roman scenes where costumes, sets and unlikely situations followed one another.

Jonathan Chiche also spoke about the arrival of the “new ones” in the Kaamelott team: how he was welcomed by Alexandre Astier’s company, the immediate complicity with the veterans, and the pleasure of taking part in the series’ mythical world. He said that his character Papinius, though a supporting role, offered him unforgettable meetings.

He is also known for roles in other series and in the theatre, but at Trolls & Légendes Jonathan Chiche will always be the Papinius everyone would like in their legion: loyal, funny, and resolutely human.
