Nicolas DEMARE

Biography & background

Nicolas Demare was born in 1974 in the Paris region. He resides in Lille.

Passionate about drawing since childhood, Nicolas Demare was struck early on by the revelation of comics (at age 8), followed by the foundational discovery of Tolkien's universe and Fantasy. This second shock permanently shaped his aspirations. He devours books on anatomy, storytelling, and comics, while following a traditional academic path.
At 20, he meets François Plisson, who opens his studio and the world of comics to him. He leaves university at 24, redirecting his focus to graphic design. He starts by working for a few years in video games. It is ultimately at 29 that the opportunity to create comics presents itself, and in 2005 he joins the "Celtic" collection by drawing Merlin, The Quest for the Sword by Jean-Luc Istin, all published by Soleil. He then participates in the Oracle series.

In 2016, he joins the team of the Terres d'Arran, a highly acclaimed series, to illustrate the 5th volume of Dwarves. Since then, he has been the guardian of the visual identity of the volumes dedicated to the Order of the Shield, solidifying his status in classic fantasy.

Today, while remaining true to his roots, Nicolas Demare explores new horizons with Éditions Oxymore. His collaboration on the 5th volume of the series West Fantasy, still with Jean-Luc Istin, demonstrates his great versatility. He brilliantly merges the harsh aesthetics of the Wild West with the epic codes of Fantasy, creating a hybrid and captivating universe.
